Earn Money Online With Life Coaching

What Is Life Coaching

Life coaching has rapidly become a popular way for individuals to achieve important goals in their personal and professional lives. Life coaching should not be confused with counselling because it does not seek to encourage the client to talk extensively about their problems. Life coaching is distinctive because it helps the individual to apply simple but effective strategies to their life in order to help them achieve their objectives. Life coaching is a hugely rewarding career and coaches can help individuals move forward on a range of subjects from career changes, personal finance issues, self improvement and many other personal, social or professional areas.

Life coaching does not require highly specialised skills because professional life coaches act as a guide rather than an authority on any particular subject, although people skills and a recognised life coaching qualification are highly desirable.

Earning Money Online As A Life Coach

The internet offers the ideal solution to building your life coaching business and you can reach a global audience with your skills. Many life coaches develop their business in their local area and spend money driving to appointments. This can drastically reduce the opportunities you have for developing your skills and the time spent travelling could be better used by fitting in additional appointments with extra clients online, therefore maximising your earnings.

Sites like Liveperson offer life coaches a ready made global client base and allow you to set up your life coaching business with few overheads and technical abilities. Liveperson is free to join and they earn money by taking a percentage of the earnings you generate from providing online advice. In essence they are a virtual office, allowing you to work in a professional manner from home and enabling others to benefit from your skills.

Alternatively you can set up your own website relatively cheaply with a web hosting company, all of whom now offer standardised website templates which require little or no technical knowledge. You can then use your website to offer life coaching sessions via email, web camera or instant messaging services like MSN messenger or Yahoo Messenger.

There are some life coaches who use this approach to great effect and i have created a detailed list of life coaches that offer both face to face and electronic life coaching sessions to clients click here to view the life coaches list

Will People Use Online Life Coaches?

Some people believe that conducting life coaching sessions online is too impersonal and that it is difficult to build rapport with the client. Whilst there is a physical barrier, life coaching is about effective communication and using the internet is simply a different form of doing so. There are many advantages to conducting life coaching sessions online for both the client and the life coach and these include;

  • An online life coaching business is quick and easy to set up.
  • Email life coaching allows the client to conduct sessions in their own time to fit around a busy schedule.

  • Online life coaching also allows you to reach a global audience, increasing the potential for coaching sessions to be filled and enabling you to conduct them with clients in most international countries across the globe.

  • Provides the client with flexibility if they are too busy to be at a fixed location, which may be difficult to drive to.

  • Reduced travel time.

  • Some clients prefer to discuss sensitive issues online rather than face to face and the internet provides anonymity.

  • Low overheads for the life coach which means you can maximise your profits or reduce the cost to your clients.

  • Life coaching online also provides the added advantage that you can access information quickly and easily from your internet browser if you need to locate resources for the client during a session, rather than having to forward this to them ready for the next session.

  • Reduced petrol/gas costs due to less travel.

    Life Coaching Qualifications

    As discussed earlier, you do not need a formal qualification to commence a career as a life coach, however obtaining a recognised life coaching qualification can help you in two distinct ways;

    Firstly it provides security for the client and they are likely to feel more comfortable in the knowledge that they are dealing with someone who is formally qualified and this will have a positive effect upon your life coaching business.

    Secondly it helps you to gain an essential overview of the key life coaching strategies and how to use them to good effect in your coaching sessions. A good life coaching course may cost between £300-500 but having completed one myself, such courses really are highly beneficial.

    The following offer nationally recognised life coaching qualifications through distance learning;

  • UK Open Learning - Course Cost £315 - Use code MA126 at the checkout and get 5% off, that's a saving of £15.75!

  • Open Study College - Course Cost £288.15

  • Oxford College - Course Cost £645

  • Not sure if life coaching is for you? Then try a non certified life coaching taster course through UK Virtual College - course cost £40.00

    Is Life Coaching Right For Me?

    Life coaching is hugely rewarding and is a great career because it combines both people contact with a steady income stream. Here are a few key skills that we think are essential for a life coach:

  • Motivational - You need to be able to motivate others to help them achieve their goals
  • People Centered. You need to be comfortable dealing with people and it is essential that they don’t feel that they are just a means for you to earn money
  • Structured - You need to be able to work in a structured way and help others to set clear goals to enable them to reach their objectives. Remember clients are paying you to help them achieve clear goals.
